Neymar is the undisputed star of Brazil and one of the most popular footballers on the planet. The 26-year-old is a three-time World Player of the Year nominee and has won almost every major honor in the game, including five league titles and the Champions League with Barcelona. He has also been voted into the UEFA Team of the Year three times.

In recent years, Neymar has firmly established himself as one of the leading players in world football. He was instrumental in Brazil’s successful 2014 World Cup campaign, scoring four goals en route to the final, which they lost to Germany. Neymar was also named after the tournament. At club level, he’s been a key member of the so-called ‘MSN’ trident alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Barcelona, while he has more recently shone for Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar will be hoping to help Brazil win their first World Cup since 2002 when they travel to Russia this summer.

2. Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is one of the most famous sportspeople on the planet. The Argentinian enjoys celebrity status like few others in football history, with fans worldwide willing him to succeed, while every tournament that Messi plays in turns into an international event due to his presence within it. Perhaps best known for his incredible goalscoring records at both club and international level, there are not many who dispute that Messi is the greatest player of all time. In a career spanning 14 years and counting, he has yet to hit 30 but has already won 24 titles with Barcelona and Argentina, including four Champions Leagues and six La Liga crowns with Barcelona. He has been named World Player of the Year five times, a record he shares with Ronaldo, while he also holds the record for most goals in a calendar year by an astonishing margin.

In world cup 2018 his main aim will be helping Argentina win their first major international honor since 1993 when they face hosts Russia at this summer’s World Cup finals.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo

One of the most recognizable faces on the planet, 2017 and world cup 2018 saw Cristiano Ronaldo reach one of the greatest milestones in his career, as he became the first player ever to score 100 goals in a UEFA club competition. The Portuguese superstar is Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer, with an astonishing 412 goals in just 394 appearances for Los Blancos. He is also Portugal’s all-time record scorer, with 85 goals in 154 games, and was the first player to score at four different European Championship tournaments.

But Ronaldo is not just a goal machine; he is also one of the finest dribblers and crossers of the ball in history, making him an extremely complete player. This was recognized by FIFA in 2007 when they named him World Player of the Year, and again in 2013 when he won the Ballon D’or award. In the same year, his club Real Madrid won La Liga, while he was also named in the UEFA Team of the Year for the sixth time, an all-time record.

Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has risen to become one of football’s biggest stars over recent seasons. The 32-year-old currently plays alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona, where he has built up an excellent reputation as one of the world’s leading midfielders since initially arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2012.

Modric has enjoyed success at both international and club levels during his career so far, winning three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid before moving to Spain. In 2018 he will be hoping to lead Croatia through a difficult group at the World Cup finals this summer, where they face hosts Russia as well as Argentina and Nigeria.
